Culinary Hub of Providence is a restaurant and culinary training center in the Providence Public Library.
Erin collaborated with CHOP’s head chef to develop their visual identity, print and digital marketing, and website. The website was designed and developed in collaboration with Justin Baillargeron.
Logo Variations:
The main challenge was to create a visual identity that would complement the Providence Public Library’s branding and history while also maintaining a timeless, contemporary feel. The beautiful interior design of the restaurant had already been established, with stacks of book sculptures, worldly patterns, earthy wooden furniture, and industrial elements as well.
Below are the first sets of logos Erin presented.
The first design playfully explored a dictionary-style treatment of words, using dots between syllables to evoke a sense of history and the printed page, reinforced by classic serif typography.
The second design built on that feeling, incorporating a spatula into the pages of a book to symbolize the merging of culinary arts and library science. The academic-style arch reinforced the blend of disciplines and the education aspect of the restaurant.
The third design featured a simplified illustration of the actual library building, paired with a clean, modern typeface.
At this stage, conversations with the client clarified the need for a more text-based, straightforward, and accessible logo. They were particularly drawn to the typeface used in the third concept, so we removed the building illustration and retained just the text.
This refined version was ultimately chosen for its clarity, accessibility, and versatility.
Erin collaborated with the client to create a custom pattern of food illustrations as a final touch to the visual branding. A swirling motif was integrated to evoke the texture of wood grain—suggesting something tangible, sturdy, and historic. The deep teal color added a fresh, elegant contrast.
Erin and Justin created a clean, responsive WordPress website, focusing on CHOP’s beautiful interior and mission.
