SHAPE AMERICA
WEBSITE REDESIGN
Designing Clarity for a National Physical Educator Community
This was a different kind of project for Sunela Creative: an expansive redesign of a large national nonprofit’s website, and the first project where Sunela Creative was brought on for front-end design alone. Over four months, Erin designed dozens of pages on a tight timeline, working closely with a small, talented team — SHAPE America’s Communications Director and two developers.
The Problem
SHAPE America, the national voice for health and physical educators, needed a website that matched the weight of its mission. The previous site buried a strong message under cluttered banner ads and inconsistent typography. Members, teachers, and administrators had to dig to find the resources, standards, and community they were looking for.
The Solution
The sprawling, resource-heavy site was transformed into a clear, confident experience. Elements were designed with physical education classes in mind: movement, flow, energy, brightness. The new homepage now leads with mission and purpose and organizes navigation around the resources visitors need: Standards, Professional Development, Advocacy, and Membership. The result is a site that feels as credible and forward-moving as the organization it represents, on desktop and mobile alike.
